WATER

The Emporia-Greensville area has a water supply available that is capable of accommodating prospective industrial and commercial demand.

Emporia owns and operates a municipal water system that has a capacity of 2 million gallons per day (MGD). The current daily use averages 1 MGD. The system has a 500,000 gallon capacity ground storage facility at the treatment plant, and 1 million total capacity in elevated storage tanks located at strategic points on the distribution system.

The Greensville County Water and Sewer Authority supplies water to a portion of the County south, west, and north of Emporia, and to the Town of Jarratt. The water system has a 1.7 million gallon total capacity in storage tanks. The Authority assumed operation and maintenance of the Town of Jarratt's water system which assists in expanding the service area to the north.

The Greensville County Water and Sewer Authority water treatment plant has a capacity of 2 million gallons per day with an average daily use of 1.1 million gallons per day.

SEWER

The Emporia-Greensville region is served by the following wastewater treatment facilities:

Emporia operates a 1.5 million gallon per day facility, which has an average daily use of 1 million gallons per day. This facility provides service to the City of Emporia.

The Greensville County Water and Sewer Authority operates three treatment facilities rated at 160,000 gallons per day each, another treatment facility rated at 750,000 gallons per day, and a smaller one rated at 36,000 gallons per day. Expansion at facilities is available.

ELECTRICITY

The Emporia-Greensville area is provided electricity by Dominion Virginia Power and Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative . Dominion Virginia Power provides service to Emporia and suburban areas in Greensville County. Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative serves Emporia Industrial Park and Greensville County Industrial Park, and offers Time-of-Day Rates and Interruptible Rates to its industrial users.

 

TELECOMMUNICATIONS

Verizon , a leading provider of voice, data and video communications, offers advanced telecommunications services to businesses and residential customers in Emporia and Greensville. The City of Emporia and Greensville County are served by state-of-the-art digital technology through switching centers in Emporia, Jarratt and South Brunswick. More than 53 miles of high capacity fiber optic cable is installed in Greensville County, including a redundant fiber toll route that provides uninterrupted long-distance service for all telephone customers. These enhancements provide state-of-the-art quality, speed, security and reliability of telecommunication services in the county.
