Over 60 acres of park facilities offer a variety of activities, including: 8 baseball fields, 4 soccer/football fields, 8 basketball courts, 3 playgrounds, 4 lighted tennis courts, and a 25 acre passive park along the Meherrin River with over 2 miles of paved walking trails. Three picnic pavilions are also available. Lake Gaston, located southwest of Emporia-Greensville, covers 48,900 acres and offers a variety of recreational opportunities.

• The Great Peanut Bicycle Tour - September 8-11
  The Emporia-Greensville region will host the 27th annual Great Peanut Bicycle Tour & Rides, sponsored by The Emporia Bicycle Club, Inc. The event offers four days of bicycle riding and touring in beautiful southside Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. A series of rides and tours is designed to appeal to all levels of bicycle riders, and a grand country setting is our backdrop. All rides begin at the Cattail Creek R.V. • Virginia Peanut Festival - September 23-25
  This festival celebrates the Virginia Peanut, farmers and the fall harvesting season in this southeastern Virginia region with rides, games, crafts, food, music, a parade and car show. Great fun for all ages.
  
• Virginia Pork Festival - June, held annually the second Wednesday in June
  One of the east coast's largest food festival, attended by more than 15,000 people, this event combines all your favorite pork dishes served with continuous live music from multiple stages. Enjoy the food, fun and party.
  
• 2006 Bike Virginia Tour - June 25
