Health Care

In 2003, Southern Virginia Regional Medical Center completed construction of its new $38 million, 144,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art hospital facility. The 80-bed acute care hospital serves a market area of approximately 50,000 and employs a medical staff of 50 physicians and more than 350 personnel, making it one of the top five employers in the area.

The new regional medical center, located adjacent to the current facility at the corner of Highways 58 and 301, offers many specialized services to its patients. Services offered include: a 24-hour emergency-care center, an intensive care unit, mammography, telemetry and other diagnostics, an oncology treatment center, maternity care, outpatient surgical specialties, home-health care programs, and rehabilitation therapies.

There are approximately 24 physicians within the community, including specialists in many fields. The area is also served by eight dentists, two optometrists, two podiatrists, an ophthalmologist, and several mental health care professionals.

In addition to Southern Virginia Regional Medical Center, regional health care is supported by:

  • Meherrin Dialysis Center
  • Emporia Manor Convalescent Center
  • Hospice of Southside Virginia
  • Eugene Bloom Retirement Center
  • Adult Activity Services
  • Greensville Counseling Services
