| In 2003,
Southern
Virginia Regional Medical Center
completed construction
of its new $38 million, 144,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art
hospital facility. The 80-bed acute care hospital serves
a market area of approximately 50,000 and employs a medical

of Highways 58 and 301, offers many specialized services to
its patients. Services offered include: a 24-hour emergency-care
center, an intensive care unit, mammography, telemetry and
other diagnostics, an oncology treatment center, maternity
care, outpatient surgical specialties, home-health care programs,
and rehabilitation therapies.
There are approximately
24 physicians within the community, including specialists in
many fields. The area is also served by eight dentists, two
